Building capability in community development and place-based approaches

Anglicare WA is a leading not-for-profit organisation that helps people in times of need through 104 services in 75 locations across Western Australia. Empowering communities and inspiring people to be active agents of change is a commitment that Anglicare WA has made in its Strategic Plan – Tackling Disadvantage 2022-2025.

In line with the organisation’s strategic focus, Janali & Co. were commissioned to custom develop a training program for Anglicare WA’s place-based leadership team to build capability in community development practices and place-based approaches. This was an exciting opportunity to develop new tools and frameworks for applying community development thinking in human service contexts. 

To support Anglicare WA achieve its goals Janali & Co.:

  • Undertook preliminary engagement with the target audience to identify the existing knowledge base, work contexts, and learning goals 

  • Developed a custom learning program that included face-to-face leadership training and small-group online coaching sessions  

  • Developed resources to support the training, including a community development framework, a relationships mapping tool, and place knowledge audit
