Local governments play an important role in supporting the development of strong communities. From frontline services such as libraries, community safety and recreation to policy and planning functions, local government officers help build communities that are connected, resilient, inclusive and empowered.
Whilst the work of building community in the local government takes on many forms and is often complex, there are some basic community development principles and practices we can apply across a range of contexts to help guide us in our approach.
This course provides an introduction to community development in local government. It is delivered in partnership with Local Government Professionals WA.

This course is delivered in partnership with Local Government Professionals WA and is designed to equip local government officers who are working to achieve community development outcomes with the practical skills to effectively measure the impact of their work.

How it works
We work together with clients to identify focus areas for building capacity e.g. evaluation and measurement, engaging with harder-to-reach groups, place based approaches.
We develop a plan for the coaching partnership that steps out how we will work together build capacity.
We develop a schedule of touchpoints for coaching. These are tailored to meet client needs.
In between coaching sessions, we provide support via email. This often involves reviewing documents like grant applications, project plans, and engagement strategies and providing useful feedback.
Email us at info@janaliconsulting.com.au for more information on coaching packages including details on pricing and concessions for non-profit organisations.
Tools and Frameworks

This editable relationships mapping tool is designed to help you identify the existing relationships you have with the communities you work with, the benefits associated with these relationships and opportunities for growing relationships in place.

'Place knowledge' underpins our ability to navigate communities effectively and collaborate with them in ways that achieve positive change.
This visual resource explores the questions we can explore to build our knowledge of place.

This deck of visuals was developed to articulate the difference between transactional and transformative engagement. We use it as a conversation starter and a tool to identify opportunities for shifting to a relational way of working with communities.
-
This grant planning canvas is designed to provide a framework for thinking through some of the questions that organisations need to explore when they are at the initial stages of planning a grant proposal.
